Tell us how the days should feel. We'll build them just like that.

A fire burning in the brick forge of the village blacksmith, tools on the wall

Aici, timpul are răbdare!

Above the valley— a private village, exclusively yours.

Experiences

Nothing at The Cliff is a fixed programme.

Some of it is always there, yours to wander into:
the animals, the trails, the fire at night. Some of it
we set up when you ask, from a fire-cooked dinner
to a day on the ridge.

Tell us what kind of days you’re after, and we shape them around your group or family.

Around the table

  • A black cauldron hangs from a tripod over an open fire at dusk

    Fire-cooked meals

    On request

Bulz—polenta with a heart of melted cheese—on the embers,
ceaune—the cast-iron cauldrons of the mountains—set over open flame,
and the proțap—a spit turned by hand over coals—served straight off the fire.

Cooked the old way, with the fire back at the centre of the evening.

  • A picnic table with cushions set in a meadow above the valley, trees around

    Picnic with a view

    On request

Up to Refugiul Florei, on the green plateau with the cleanest air of the year—a blanket on the grass, or a long table laid out for larger groups. Walk up for the hike of it, or take the horse-drawn carriage with the little ones, with nothing above you but the peaks and the wide-open sky.

  • A wooden tray with two coffees, a croissant and a bowl of strawberries on a sheepskin

    Breakfast at your door

    Included

Fresh baskets delivered to each house every morning. Bread, eggs, local cheese and preserves, whatever the day calls for. No dining-room hours, no rushing down before it closes: the day starts when you do, and breakfast is already waiting.

  • Bottles of wine in a bucket of ice beside a laid picnic table

    Wine tasting

    By reservation

A sommelier walks you through each glass while the kitchen builds a meal around the wines. Part tasting, part dinner, part evening that runs long, and a chance to get to discover the wines of the valley, from Azuga’s royal-era sparkling to the deep reds of Dealu Mare.

  • A bottle of champagne, a glass and a lemon on a round wooden board with the village name

    Distillery visit

    On request

A visit to the local povarnă—the traditional fruit-brandy still—where plums and other orchard fruit are turned into țuică the slow way, over wood fire, as they have been here for generations. Taste it at the source, straight from the still.

  • Clay bowls and a pot on a wooden kitchen counter

    Seasonal foraging & cooking

    On request | Seasonal

A morning in the woods with a basket, gathering whatever the season gives: wild raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, rosehips. Then straight back to the kitchen to turn the haul into lunch, a jam, or a pie for dinner. You pick it; we show you how to cook it.

Around the village

  • Four goats look out from the doorway of a small wooden A-frame barn

    Cliff mini-farm

    Anytime

A proper little farmyard on the grounds: alpacas, mini-ponies, goats, donkeys, rabbits
and chickens, all used to visitors. Free to wander among whenever you like; to meet,
to feed, and for the children, to lose a whole afternoon to.

Our youngest guests rarely want to leave.

  • Sparks fly from the glowing coals of the blacksmith’s forge in a stone workshop

    Live blacksmithing

    On request

The village smith at the hammer and anvil—sparks, heat, and the ring of metal on metal. The same horses that pull the carriages up the hill, shod by hand the way they always have been. The old craft of the mountain, in front of you.

  • Yoga mats laid out on a wooden deck under a roof, a deer wandering past the forest edge

    Yoga & pilates

    By reservation

Sessions out in the open: the valley below, the mountains all around, cool morning air and birdsong for a soundtrack. Led by an instructor, for all levels, whether you practise every day or have never tried. For small groups, they can even take place in the deer hide.

  • Children sit on rugs and straw bales in a wooden shelter, listening and laughing

    Playground & campfire

    Anytime

A playground to keep the youngest busy for hours, and a hayloft with a view to climb up into when they tire of it. Then, as the light goes, the firepit where the whole village drifts to end the day, long after the children are asleep.

  • Long wooden tables set with glasses and notepads inside the Barn, windows onto the trees

    Team games

    By reservation

Outdoor games set up for a group to play together—part contest, part collaboration, the kind that get everyone laughing and a little competitive by the end. As good for a family or a group of friends as for a team that wants to work on how it works together.

  • Bunches of plants hung to dry under the wooden roof of a hut

    Harvest days

    On request | Seasonal

When autumn comes, the whole village pitches in. A walk round the hill for cătină (buckthorn), blackberries and wild hazelnuts, then a clacă back at the Barn—everyone round a table, sorting the berries the old communal way. The barman turns the cătină into gin; the kitchen takes care of the rest. Picked by morning, on the table by night.

Exploring beyond

  • A green meadow with a large tree and a small hut, mountains under a cloudy sky

    Hiking

    Anytime

Trails start at the door. An easy hour to the Ghioșești belvedere and the whole valley
opens below you; a couple of hours up Vârful Pleșuva for the bigger panorama; or a full day
along the Baiu ridge, cliffs on one side and quiet valley on the other.

Gentle to serious, there’s a walk for every morning.

  • Seen from inside an off-road buggy: the driver’s hands on the wheel and an ATV ahead on a green track

    ATV & off-road jeep

    By reservation

Out into the Comarnic forests and up toward Lake Paltinu: guided, geared up, and pitched to your group, whether that’s a gentle forest track or the steep stuff. The wild side of the valley, at speed.

  • A group of fallow deer eating from a wooden trough at the edge of the forest

    Deer visits

    Anytime

A gentle 30-minute walk to the forest enclosure, where cerbi lopătar—the broad-antlered fallow deers—graze. Easy for all ages, and the littlest ones can ride out by horse-drawn carriage instead. A favourite with families, and a good breather between the busier parts of the day.

  • A small wooden A-frame hut with a railing on a hillside, trees behind

    Archery & axe-throwing

    By reservation

Targets set up out in the open, with professional guidance on hand for anyone who wants it. Open to all ages and all levels: a first bow for the children, a bit of friendly rivalry for a team, or something the whole family can do together. Easy to pick up, hard to put down.

  • Two black horses pull a wooden carriage full of guests along a forest track

    Horse carriage rides

    On request

A slow ride out through the village and countryside behind the horses: the oldest way to see the place, and still the best for it. Take it just for the gentle hour of it, or as the way out to the fallow deer in their forest enclosure. Easy for every age, and a soft landing for the smallest guests, who’d rather ride than walk.

  • A low picnic table with cushions set on the grass under tall trees

    Orchard adventures

    On request | Seasonal

An ATV or jeep ride out to Ionel’s plum orchard at Secăria, a picnic among the trees, and as much plum-picking as you like. The plums come back to the Cliff and into the ceaun, slow-simmered into magiun (plum butter) and served that evening over papanași, the warm Romanian cheese doughnuts. The best kind of round trip.
